Murlough Bay and Fair Head are situated on the County Antrim coast between Cushendun and Ballycastle. Murlough Bay, owned by the National Trust, is one of the most idyllic spots on the Northern Ireland Coast. It is reached by a steep, winding road and offers superb views of Fair Head, Rathlin island and on a clear day Scotland as well. Rugged cliff-tops drop down to gently sloping meadows and woodland, and unspoilt beaches fringe the shore. The bay is renowned for its variety of flora and fauna, with rare plants flourishing in the temperate soil, and birds such as buzzards and Peregrine falcons nesting among the cliff-tops. There are also remains of a monastic settlement, and remnants from the time when coal and lime was mined in the bay.
Location:
Co Antrim, near Ballycastle.
