There is a series of walks throughout the Park
and neighbouring Castle Archdale Forest,
home to the 'Old Castle'. The walk described
here highlights the Parks vital role in the
Battle of the Atlantic and the RAF camp.
From Castle Archdale Courtyard, follow the
sign for the Woodland Walk down steps
towards the caravan site and a large green
tank, which once provided drinking water
from Lough Erne to the camp. Turn right
and follow the pedestrian path along the
main drive with the perimeter of the
walled garden on the right. Further on the
left, is 'Skunk Hollow', once the sleeping
quarters of Canadian air crews.
On reaching a junction turn right and head
towards the loughshore, look out for a
memorial stone and a lime tree arch,
woven together by airmen on duty. Follow
signs for the 'Burma Rd', cut through dense
forest to give access to bomb and
ammunition stores. The path runs adjacent
to the shore before sweeping back to the
starting point at the Courtyard.
