Belfast Castle Garden

Belfast Castle estate is situated on the lower slopes of Cave Hill Country Park in north Belfast. It contains both parkland and mature mixed woodland and offers superb views of the city from a variety of vantage points. A deer park associated with Belfast Castle on the slopes of Cave Hill. The house dates from about 1868-70 and there is tree planting from that date. There are formal gardens at the house. The site was donated as a park in 1934. The castle gardens were marked on a map of 1685, then lost, though the deer park survives. The present house and formal garden date from 1868. A public amenity since 1934. The estate is home to many different species of wildlife, including long-eared owls, sparrowhawks and Belfast’s rarest plant, the town hall clock. More information about the estate is available from Cave Hill Visitor Centre, located in Belfast Castle
